Improvements to the road to Piton
Collaborative efforts between Piton and surrounding villages and groups
bring about big changes in village accessibility
From the bottom of the mountain to about three quarters of the way up to the top where Piton is located (approx. 3,000 ft), the road is a concrete treadway (two concrete paths for tires) and is so steep that certain vehicles can't manage it. But it's easy compared to the last third of the road to Piton/Piton West! This section of the road is treacherous to say the least. Full of boulders and red clay, only the hardiest of vehicles can manage the climb. Mostly the road accommodates local foot travelers.
In late 2022, Piton village began working with other area villages and groups to improve the dirt and gravel road leading to the top of the mountain. Aid to Infrastructure invested financially in this work and we are seeing concrete (get it?) evidence of results. Enjoy the photos below.
